Icelandic book series to be adapted for release from late 2014.

Swedish production company Cap Horn Film and Iceland’s Spellbound Productions, co-owned by director Fridrick Thor Fridriksson, are set to adapt Icelandic writer Jon Kalman Stefansson’s acclaimed “Heaven and Hell” trilogy, for release late 2014.

The three books in the series - Heaven and Hell (2007), The Sorrow of Angels (2009) and The Heart of Man (2011) - are set in Iceland at the turn of the 19th century and follow a protagonist struggling to master his fate while struggling against the cruelty of the natural world.

Cap Horn owner Gunner Carlsson, known for recent credits in Let the Right One In and After the Wedding, will work with Fridriksson and Spellbound’s Gudrun Edda Thorhannesdottir (Country Wedding) on the adaptation.

Thorhannesdottir said: “Kalman’s writing is poetic and dramatic with beautiful cinematic descriptions which make his work perfect to adapt for the big screen.”
