Studiocanal has boarded the first TV series from Danish Oscar and Bafta-winning director Thomas Vinterberg.
As previously announced by Screen, Vinterberg – whose film credits include Another Round and The Hunt – will direct the six-part family saga titled Families Like Ours, produced by Nordic production company Zentropa, which also worked on Another Round. Studiocanal has joined as a co-producer and distributor of the series, which is set to shoot on location in Denmark, Sweden, and the Czech Republic in September 2022.
Studiocanal will oversee worldwide sales apart from France, Benelux and Scandinavia, which will be handled by TrustNordisk.
The project reunites Vinterberg and Zentropa with Studiocanal, which distributed Another Round in the UK. The series is set in summertime Denmark, as lives get thrown into disarray by a flood slowly taking over the country, forcing its inhabitants to disperse, with divisions arising between the opportunities for the wealthy and the poor.
Zentropa Entertainments and TV 2 Denmark developed the series with support from the Danish Film Institute’s Public Service Fund and the Creative Europe Media programme of the European Union.
Canal+ has commissioned the series in France as a Canal+ Creation Originale. The series is produced by Zentropa Entertainments in co-production with Studiocanal and TV 2 Denmark, and in co-production with Zentropa Sweden, Film I Väst, Sirena Films, NRK and TV4/C More with the support from the Danish Film Institute’s Public Service Fund.
