Sundance winner ‘The Stroll’ to open BFI Flare festival, ‘Drifter’ to close

Kristen Lovell and Zackary Drucker’s documentary The Stroll will open the 37^th edition of the BFI’s LGBTQIA+ festival Flare on March 15.

The film will have its international premiere at Flare, after world premiering at Sundance last month where it picked up the US documentary special jury award: clarity of vision.

The Stroll explores the history of New York’s meatpacking district through the eyes of the trans women of colour working there.

Closing the festival on March 25 is the UK premiere of Hannes Hirsch’s debut feature Drifter which follows a recently dumped young man in Berlin finding himself in the city’s party scene. It will world premiere in the Berlinale’s Panorama strand.

BFI Flare also announced a special centrepiece presentation of Tünde Skovrán’s documentary Who I Am Not on March 21. The film, about the challenges facing two intersex people in South Africa, will have its UK premiere at the festival.

The full line-up for BFI Flare will be unveiled on February 15.
