The Exchange has come on board to handle international sales at the AFM on Latino superhero film El Chicano featuring a powerhouse Latino cast led by Raúl Castillo and Kate del Castillo and based on a screenplay co-written by The A-Team director Joe Carnahan.

Tom Ortenberg’s Briarcliff Entertainment will handle US distribution on the feature, which also stars George Lopez, Aimee Garcia (Dexter), and Emilio Rivera (Sons Of Anarchy, Mayans).

Ben Hernandez Bray will direct El Chicano, about a police officer (Castillo) in East Los Angeles drawn into events surrounding the death of his ex-con brother while investigating the exploits of the mysterious titular figure.

David Castañeda, Marlene Forte, Jose Pablo Cantillo, and Sal Lopez round out the supporting cast.

Veteran stunt coordinator Bray co-wrote the project with Carnahan, who is also producing alongside Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Frank Grillo.

“This film has global appeal given its strong marketing hooks and superb execution,” said The Exchange CEO Brian O’Shea. “El Chicano is one of those rare opportunities for an independent buyer, it’s a film filled with action, has a comic book feel, and will have a meaningful US theatrical release next year.”

The Exchange AFM 2018 line-up also includes Drew Barrymore’s The Stand-In; Vanessa Redgrave and Timothy Spall in Mrs Lowry And Son; Alex Pettyfer, Charlette Le Bon, Laura Harrier and Lana Condor’s Warning; and Sundance 2018 award winners Blaze from Ethan Hawke, and We The Animals from Jeremiah Zagar.
