13th edition runs August 23-27.

The world premiere of Paul Hyett’s directorial debut The Seasoning House will open this year’s edition of Film4 FrightFest on August 23, which takes place at the Empire Cinema, Leicester Square in London.

Hyett’s psychological horror, set in a Balkan brothel, stars Sean Pertwee and Rosie Day, making her feature debut as the deaf-mute brothel worker Angel. Hyett and the cast will be attending the premiere.

James Nunn and Ronnie Thompson’s suspense shocker Tower Block [pictured], starring Sheridan Smith, Jack O’Connell and Russell Tovey, will receive its world premiere as the festival’s closing film on August 27, with the directors and cast in attendance.

Film4 FrightFest co-director Alan Jones commented: “Once more Film4 FrightFest is delighted to be showcasing the key British talent of the future with our opening choice of The Seasoning House, and our closing film, Tower Block. Both films are works of quality, sensitivity and bloody-minded bravado and the directors deserve to follow in the footsteps of such other talents we have promoted early in their careers, Christopher Nolan, Neil Marshall, Chris Smith and James Watkins.”

This year’s edition will also feature the UK premiere of Paco Plaza’s [REC]³ Génesis, which Plaza and leading lady Leticia Dolera will attend, with the full line-up announced on June 29. Festival & day passes go on sale from June 30.

For the first time, there will be a third screen at the festival, featuring retrospectives, a FrightFest Glasgow catch-up of our most popular titles and special events.
