An in-person screening of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is among the second wave of Fantasia International Film Festival selections announced on Wednesday (June 23).

The Warner Bros tentpole will screen on August 4 in Montreal ahead of its August 6 day-and-date debut in cinemas and on HBO Max.

Anticipated highlights from the upcoming 25th anniversary edition of Fantasia, which runs as a geoblocked virtual event from August 5-25, include world premieres of Vicente Amorim’s Yakuza Princess starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Japanese-American singer Masum, UK filmmaker Ruth Platt’s Martyr’s Lane, and Canadian director Maxwell McCabe-Lokos’s Stanleyville

Among the North American premieres are Hong Eui-jeong’s Voice Of Silence, Soushi Matsumoto’s It’s A Summer Film, and Chong Keat Aun’s Malaysia-set The Story Of Southern Islet in Camera Lucida,

Receiving its Canadian premiere is Sundance selection We’re All Going To The World’s Fair starring Anna Cobb.

The festival will feature screenings, on-demand library, panels, and workshops. As previously announced, the opening night selection is the world premiere of Julien Knafo’s Québec production Brain Freeze.
