The UK box office suffered its second lowest weekend gross in six years with a Friday-Sunday total of £6,247,154 from July 6-8, 2018, according to data from comScore.
This is the lowest three-day weekend since June 16-18, 2017, which recorded £6,243,022, according to figures reported on Box Office Mojo. Wonder Woman was then the top film after three weeks on release.
Before then, the next lowest weekend was £6,140,261 garnered in Dec 23-25, 2011, when Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows was at number one for the second weekend.
Even without an exciting quarter-final match in the World Cup Finals on Saturday (July 7), in which England were playing Sweden, the sunny weather in the UK would have very likely severely dented cinema-going over this weekend.

When taking previews into consideration, this weekend was the fourth-lowest weekend of the last five years with a gross of £6,795,488, according to comScore. (The company records ‘reported data’ from UK distributors which includes previews.) This takes into account the five-day opening ‘weekend’ of films such as Universal’s The First Purge which opened on Wednesday July 4th, day-and-date with the US.
The lowest weekends (including previews) of the last five years were £6,463,571 (June 16, 2017), £6,580,441 (July 4, 2014), and December 8, 2017 (£6,697,173).
