They will join other industry professionals including Alex Garland and Stephen Woolley.

Bond producer Barbara Brocoli and The Road director John Hillcoat have signed up to become mentors as part of the Guiding Lights scheme, which is run by Skillset and arts agency Lighthouse.

Announced at the Edinburgh Film Festival today, the list of new mentors also includes screenwriter Alex Garland and UK producer Stephen Woolley. They join current mentors including Christopher Hampton, Stephen Frears and Justin Chadwick.

Launched in 2006, the Guiding Lights scheme has mentored over 51 emerging film professionals, including five of Screen’s Stars Of Tomorrow.

Each of the mentors will develop a one-on-one relationship with an up-and-coming director, writer, producer, cinematographer or business professional, and work with them over a year-long process.

The Guiding Lights participants are based all over the UK, and work across fiction, animation and documentary. They include directors David Smith and Ian Clark, writers Hajdana Baletic and Stewart Thompson and producers Nicky Bentham and Enrico Tessarin.

Barbara Broccoli said: “I am delighted to have been selected as a Guiding Light Mentor.  It is so important we nurture young people’s talent and creativity for film-making and equip them with the skills required to continue the success of the British film industry.”

Guiding Lights Chair, Alison Thompson added: “The calibre of this year’s mentees is a tribute to the continued success of this exceptional programme.  The very best of upcoming talent has been matched by an equally illustrious group of industry professionals and I wish them all the very best for the coming year.”
