French director’s collection of 13 feature films and documentaries will premiere at Watershed in Bristol.

Renowned auteur and filmmaker Claire Denis is to have a broad selection of her cinematic work presented in a retrospective that will tour the UK and Ireland this summer.

Timed to coincide with the release of her latest project, White Material, the French director’s collection of 13 feature films and documentaries spanning three decades, will premiere at Watershed in Bristol on June 6 before touring to venues in Ireland and across the UK. White Material is released nationwide on July 2.

This latest film, a follow-up to the critically acclaimed 35 Shots Of Rum sees Denis finally return to Africa where she tells a story of a white French family attempting to save their coffee plantation amidst civil strife and racial conflict.

Despite the director’s caché, this retrospective is a rare example of a distributor collaborating with regional venues on a foreign language film, boosted by the fact that many of the films on offer have never been previously shown in the UK outside of festivals.
