At a reception tonight in Cannes, BFI Chair Greg Dyke announced that The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper has been appointed to the BFI’s Board of Governors.

The King’s Speech got funding from the UK Film Council, whose funding responsibilities have now transferred over to the BFI.

The Oscar winner is the final new addition to the BFI’s revamped board of 15. Other new Governors include Big Talk’s Matthew Justice and Warner Bros.’ Josh Berger.

Dyke said: “With a reputation as an outstanding collaborator, his knowledge, expertise and influence will be invaluable in helping us steer the new lead body for film towards an exciting future for British film.”

Also, UK Culture Minister Ed Vaizey was at the Cannes reception and told attendees that the government’s details of its film policy review would be announced “in the next few weeks.”
