UK distributor boards Miss Bala, Everybody Has A Plan and Bunker in Cannes.
UK distributor Metrodome has taken UK & Eire rights to three Cannes titles from Fox International: Miss Bala, which had its premiere in the Un Certain Regard section; Everybody Has a Plan; and Bunker.
Gerardo Naranjo’s Mexican action-drama Miss Bala charts the story of a beauty queen whose dream is threatened when she unwillingly gets involved with a criminal group. Executive-produced by Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna and Geminiano Pineda, the film stars newcomers Stephanie Sigman and Noe Hernandez.
Everybody Has a Plan stars Viggo Mortensen and Soledad Villamil in the feature debut of writer/director Ana Piterbarg. The film follows Mortensen’s character as he assumes his dead brother’s identity with unexpectedly dangerous results. The co-production between Haddock Films, Tornasol Films, Terz Films and Castafiore Films is produced by Gerardo Herrero, Mariela Besuievsky and Vanessa Ragone, the producing team behind The Secret In Their Eyes.
Andres Baiz’s Bogota-set thriller Bunker stars Quim Gutiérrez, Clara Lago and Martina García in the story of a conductor with the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra whose girlfriend vanishes in the wake of her doubts over his fidelity.
The three-film deal was negotiated by Head of Acquisitions & Production James Brown and Shebnem Askin-Schreger for Fox International.
Head of Distribution for Metrodome Jezz Vernon said: “We’re very pleased that Fox felt we were the right home for these titles in the UK, Miss Bala especially has been one of the standout critical successes of Cannes and we’re delighted to be bringing all three films to British audiences. After a very successful run of theatrical releases in 2010 we look forward to building on our success in 2011 and 2012.”
Other Metdrome acquisitions during Cannes included Comrade, starring Rupert Grint; A Royal Affair with Mads Mikkelsen; and Agnieszka Holland’s In Darkness.
Amid significant restructuring, Metrodome last year managed to post its best box office performance in six years.
