Mikael Wallen is stepping down as president of Yellow Bird, the Swedish production company behind the original version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

He will leave the Zodiak Media-owned company this month after more than five years with the company, which also makes TV detective series Wallander.

Anni Faurbye Fernandez, currently an executive producer at Yellow Bird, has been appointed chief executive and will take up her new role on Jan 1.

Wallen said: “The last five years have been an amazing experience for me at Yellow Bird, particularly with the global roll out of the Millennium trilogy. I think it is the right time for me now to move on and I wish everyone at Yellow Bird further success in the future.”

Fernandez said: “We have a great and proven team at the company and I will do everything I can to maintain our position in our domestic market and take the business to the next level in the international market.”

Yellow Bird was established in 2003 and focuses primarily on international co-productions based on books.
