‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’

AUGUST 12 UPDATE: Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood crossed $100m in its third weekend at the North American box office through Sony, becoming the filmmaker’s fourth release to do so.

The ode to Hollywood past starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie dropped 42% to deliver an $11.7m weekend haul and push the running total to $100.4m.

Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood dropped two slots to number five in North America and currently ranks third in Tarantino’s career, behind Django Unchained on $162.8m, Inglourious Basterds on $120.5m, and Pulp Fiction on $107.9m. Pulp Fiction is the director’s biggest hit in real terms on $184.4m.

Universal’s Hobbs & Shaw held firm at number one in its second session, earning $25.3m for $108.5m, while CBS Films’ horror release Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark produced by Guillermo del Toro opened at number two via Lionsgate on $20.9m in 3,135 sites.

Paramount family adventure Dora And The Lost City Of Gold arrived in fourth place on $17.4m in 3,735 venues, while Disney released the Fox 2000 drama The Art Of Racing In The Rain starring Milo Ventimiglia at number six on $8.1m in 2,765 venues.

Two more films broke into the top 10 in their opening weekends: New Line’s female-led crime drama The Kitchen starring Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss and Tiffany Haddish opened at number seven through Warner Bros on a lacklustre $5.5m in 2,745, and Trafalgar Releasing’s K-Pop documentary Bring The Soul: The Movie arrived in tenth place on $2.4m in 873.

Bleecker Street opened Brian Banks in 11th place on $2.2m from 1,240 sites. Aldis Hodge stars in the biography of wrongly convicted American Football player Banks.

Roadside Attractions delivered the highlight of the limited releases, as adventure story The Peanut Butter Falcon starring Shia LaBoeuf, Zack Gottsagen and Dakota Johnson arrived at number 20 on $204,803 for a $12,047 average from 17 theatres. Sony Classics opened the drama remake After The Wedding with Michelle Williams and Julianne Moore at number 37 on $50,264 for an $10,053 average in five.
