Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive (pictured), Aleksander Sokurov’s Venice Golden Lion winner Faust and Asghar Farhadi’s Berlin Golden Bear winner A Separation are among the line-up in the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival, set to run from Oct 6-18.

Festival do Rio organisers unveiled the Premiere Brazil competition section, which this year sees the return of Selton Mello, Karim Aïnouz, Beto Brant and documentary film maker Eduardo Coutinho.

Works from renowned world filmmakers include Zhang Yimou’s Under The Hawthorn Tree, Martin Scorsese’s George Harrison and Todd Solondz’s Dark Horse.

Willem Dafoe will attend for the Brazilian premiere of his wife Giada Colagrande’s A Woman, as will Marisa Peredes for Pedro Almodovar’s The Skin I Live In, which is likely to be the festival’s opening night film.

Events include a retrospective for Dario Argento, whose Profondo Rosso and Suspiria will screen for the first time outside Italy in uncensored full-length versions.

Another key element of the festival will be the RioMarket, which includes panels and speakers such as Oscar winning sound technician Chris Newman and costume designer Monique Prudhomme.

Overall more than 350 films will screen and there will be around 27 world premieres. For further information visit the official website.
