The 41st annual showcase is scheduled to run from Mar 21-Apr 1 and is bookended by Nadine Labaki’s Where Do We Go Now? (pictured) and a surprise closing night selection.

Gareth Evans’ cult hit The Raid becomes the festival’s first late night screening and Antoine Delesvaux and Joann Sfar’s The Rabbi’s Cat is the first 3D selection.

The programme includes Stanley Kubrick’s 1953 debut Fear And Desire. Overall 29 features will screen – of which five are documentaries – alongside 12 shorts.

The narrative feature line-up includes Adam Leon’s Gimme The Loot, Kleber Mendonça Filho’s Neighboring Sounds and Lee Kwang-kuk’s Romance Joe.

“While New Directors/New Films by design is about discovery, this year’s films broaden the definition of a ‘New Directors film’ to include; a revival, a midnight movie and even a family film,” MoMA’s Celeste Bartos chief curator of film Rajendra Roy said.

“And our Closing Night film adds a twist to the thrill of the unknown, as we won’t reveal the name of the film until the curtain is about to go up. Rest assured, it will be one of the most talked-about films of the year, but beyond that you’ll have to come ready for anything.”
