Red Shirley is an affectionate portrait of Reed’s 100-year-old cousin.

Lou Reed will present the world premiere of his directorial debut film Red Shirley at the Visions Du Reel film festival.

The film is not drawing on Reed’s musical history; instead, it is about his cousin on the eve of her 100th birthday. The affectionate portrait covers Shirley’s turbulent personal history, from surviving two world wars to become a dressmaker and crusader for workers’ rights.

The screening at Nyon’s Visions Du Reel will be held on April 20 at 8:30 p.m. as part of the Tendances selection.
