Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi and Jim Carrey star in the Warner Bros/New Line comedy about feuding Las Vegas musicians that will open the 20th anniversary event on Mar 8. Warner Bros will release the film a week later.

Festival highlights are expected to include an on-stage conversation with Matthew McConaughey, while The Black List CEO Franklin Leonard will speak on a panel about entrepreneurs.

Festival organisers announced that the following films had joined the line-up: Fede Alvarez’ Evil Dead remake, Joe Swanberg’s comedy Drinking Buddies, Alex Winter’s Napster documentary Downloaded, Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, Ryan White’s documentary about the Beatles’ secretary Good Ol’ Freda, and Everyone’s Going To Die from the UK directing collective Jones.

The complete programme will be announced on Jan 31 except for the Midnighter features, which will be announced with the shorts line-up on Feb 6.

“Everyone knows that we like have a good time at SXSW, and our 20th year is already well on track with smart, stylish and highly entertaining work,” said SXSW Film Conference and Festival producer Janet Pierson. “Though this is just a taste of what SXSW 2013 will have to offer, what better way to get the party started than with The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, which had us laughing our heads off, despite an 8am Monday viewing.”

The SXSW Conference and Festival is scheduled to run from Mar 8-16 in Austin, Texas.
