Vikramaditya Motwane’s drama scores top award at London festival

Vikramaditya Motwane’s coming-of-age drama Udaan, about a 16-year-old boy who must confront his abusive father after being expelled from school, has taken the Best Debut Feature Award at London’s East End Film Festival (April 27-May 2).

Motwane will now be invited to join the EEFF as a Director in Residence for next year’s festival when the EEFF focuses on Indian cinema.

The award was bestowed by jury members Adrian Utley from band Portishead, Romanian actress Monica Barladeanu and Ailsa Ferrier of Artificial Eye.

The Best Feature Documentary Award, supported by Sheffield Doc/Fest, was awarded to Helena Trestikova’s Katka, while Best UK Short Film went to Billy Lumby’s God View.
