Halloween approaches and so the horror returns. The fourth entry in the global horror smash goes out day-and-date with North America this weekend.

Among the expected highlights are scheduled debuts in the UK, Australia, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, Argentina and Spain. Paramount Pictures International releases the film in approximately 34 territories.

In a busy weekend for the distributor, DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3 arrives in the UK in a launch that should push it towards the $500m mark. The film has grossed $471.6m.

Fox International reported that as of Oct 16 EuropaCorp’s Taken 2 stood at $135.8m. The thriller has dominated the two previous international weekends and should still offer a potent challenge to PPI’s horror release.

Meanwhile Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter stood at $71.6m and Ice Age 4 $708.2m as of Oct 16.

Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) launches Hotel Transylvania on $53.2m in around 11 markets this weekend including Russia and Premium Rush in four including Germany and India.

Total Recall has amassed $120.9m thus far and arrives in China, while Footnote (Hearat Shulayim) debuts in Brazil. Resident Evil: Retribution has grossed $172.4m, of which $158m comes through SPRI.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International opened the Tim Burton animation Frankenweenie this weekend in the UK, Hong Kong, Netherlands, New Zealand and Belgium among others. The film stands at an early $7.4m.

Warner Bros Pictures International’s The Dark Knight Rises has amassed $632m. Argo is on the runway and commences its international run next week in Australia, Japan and Spain.

Universal Pictures International’s Ted stands at $254.4m.
