Joely Richardson in talks to join violin maestro David Garrett on cast with Bernard Rose set to direct.

Summerstorm Entertainment, a subsidiary of Christian Angermayer’s Film House Germany, and co-producers Bavaria Media Italia and Dor Film have announced that principal photography on the English-language feature is scheduled to take place in July in Vienna.

The film recounts the life of 19th century musical genius Paganini, with particular focus on how he met the love of his life, how he created a pact with his manager to create a myth surrounding himself and how the press played its part in his rise and fall.

The project will mark the acting debut of German-American wunderkind Garrett, who will also serve as executive producer. Richardson is in final negotiations to play Ethel Langham, the journalist who played a role in his downfall.

“David Garrett is a tremendous talent, a true rock star of the classical music and crossover world who recognized in Paganini a kindred spirit,” producer Rosilyn Heller said.

“For David to take on this role and illuminate the soul of an original, seductive, troubled and defiant artist – who, indeed, was the rock star of his day – fulfils our wildest dreams.”

Heller is producing with Gabriela Bacher and Christian Angermayer of Film House Germany.
