Oliver Stone and Manoj Kumar were presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the festival’s closing ceremony.

Seren Yüce’s Turkish film Majority picked up the Golden Gateway Best Film Award at the 12th Mumbai Film Festival which closed yesterday (28 October). The award carries a cash prize of US$100,000.

The Silver Gateway Award in the international competition category was presented to Danish film R directed by Michael Noer and Tobias Lindholm.

The Silver Gateway Award for best director was presented to Anocha Suwichakornpong for her Thai film Mundane History while the Silver Gateway Award for best actor was presented to Bartu Kucukcaglayan for his performance in Majority.

Marie Hélène Bellavance won the Silver Gateway Award for best actress for her performance in Canadian film Vital Signs. The all-woman jury was led by Jane Campion along with Indian actor Suhasini Maniratnam, Tanya Seghatchian (producer of four Harry Potter films), Iranian filmmaker Samira Makhmalbaf and South Korean actress Yoon Jeong-Hee.

The jury award for technical excellence went to Greek film Black Field (Mavro Livadi) helmed by Vardis Marinakis and the Audience Choice Silver Gateway Award was bagged by Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Biutiful.

At the closing ceremony, veteran Indian actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar and Hollywood director Oliver Stone were presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Stone thanked Mumbai and the Festival and said “India has great culture, you make great movies and I am honored to accept this award.”

Two hundred films from 58 countries were screened at this year’s festival, which ran from 21 to 28 October.
