Hong Kong-based Celestial Pictures has appointed Gillian Zhao Fang as managing director, China.

Based in Beijing, she will be responsible for expanding Celestial’s mainland China business including channel distribution, content licensing and film and TV series production.

Zhao will also drive distribution of Celestial’s Shaw Brothers library to traditional and new media platforms in China. In particular, she will focus on developing partnerships with digital platforms and content creators in China to extend the reach of the library as well as create new content based on Shaw Brothers films and characters.

Celestial also plans to ramp up film and TV production in China to create a pipeline of product that the company will distribute globally, while select titles will debut on its bouquet of TV channels.

Zhao was previously Star China’s senior vice president, Sales and Syndication, responsible for the company’s advertising sales, distribution and syndication in China. Before joining Star, she was country manager of Apple China and prior to that, deputy general manager of Microsoft (China).
