Larry Crowne, directed by and starring Tom Hanks, will screen at the closing night gala of ScreenSingapore on June 11.

Hanks will attend the screening of the film, which marks its Asia Pacific premiere, at the recently refurbished Lido Theatre, operated by Shaw Organisation.

Also starring Julia Roberts, Larry Crowne is produced by Hanks and Gary Goetzman through their production label Playtone, and is executive produced by Philippe Rousselet under the Vendome Pictures banner.

Universal Pictures will release the film in North America on July 1, while Summit Entertainment is overseeing international sales on the film. Shaw Organisation has acquired rights for Singapore and will release the film on July 28.

Rousselet said: “I am thrilled that Larry Crowne has been invited to close the first edition of ScreenSingapore. The Asia Pacific, with its 3.6 billion population, is an increasingly important market for companies like Vendome and I am extremely pleased to be able to bring the film and ScreenSingapore together.”

Summit co-chairman Patrick Wachsberger said: “Summit is very pleased to premiere Larry Crowne at the inaugural ScreenSingapore. It is the perfect place to launch this exciting film which we know will resonate not only within the Asia Pacific region but also with audiences around the world.”

ScreenSingapore aims to help US and Asian studios launch tent-pole titles into the Asia market ahead of the peak summer box office season. The event will also feature a trade show, Expo@ScreenSingapore (June 7-9), for equipment and technology companies and content suppliers, along with seminars, workshops, master classes and an awards ceremony.
