UTV Motion Pictures unveiled its upcoming production Heroine, starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, at Cannes on Friday (May 13).

Rai will play the role of a fictional superstar in the film which is scheduled to start shooting in June. She previously starred in UTV’s Jodhaa Akbar and Guzaarish.

Bhandarkar is renowned for a series of women-centric films including Chandni Bar, Page 3, Corporate and most recently blockbuster Fashion, produced by UTV. In Heroine, he will look at the glamour, the scandal and the back-biting politics in the life of a Bollywood queen.

UTV CEO Ronnie Screwvala said: “UTV and Madhur’s combination in Fashion combined the right blend of reality, something that Madhur excels in, with glamour, and it was mounted on a large canvas. With Heroine we take it to the next level and when you see the movie finally you will know it was written only with someone as talented and expressive and stunning as Aishwarya in mind.”

UTV’s upcoming slate also includes Delhi Belly, produced by Bollywood star Aamir Khan and starring Imran Khan; Chillar Party, My Friend Pinto and Short Term Shaadi.
