Japanese distributor Gaga Media has bought local rights to Gaudi Afternoon from Lolafilms UK, in a deal struck at the London market screenings last week.

The Susan Seidelman directed film had previously been sold to Kinowelt for Germany, Eastern Europe, Russia, Switzerland and Vietnam; to Lolafilms for Spain; Smile for Scandinavia; Shapira for Israel; Odean for Greece; RTV for Turkey; Ster-Kinekor for South Africa and Haskolabio for Iceland.

Starring Judy Davis, Marcia Gay Harden , Lili Taylor and Juliette Lewis, the $6m budgeted picture was produced by Lolafilms' Andres Vicente Gomez.

An adaptation of the Barbara Wilson novel, Gaudi Afternoon was shot on location in Barcelona during spring this year. Gaudi follows an American translator living in Barcelona who is caught up in a stranger's attempt to track down her estranged husband.

Lolafilms is at MIFED selling a slate of films including David Trueba's Masterpiece, Alex De La Iglesia's Commonwealth, Katherine Lindberg's Rain, and John Malkovich's The Dancer Upstairs.
