A Separation is Iran's Foreign Film Oscar submission

Iran selects Asghar Farhadi’s acclaimed drama as its Best Foreign Language Oscar submission.

Asghar Farhadi’s Berlin Golden Bear winner A Separation has been selected as Iran’s entry for Best Foreign Film at the 84th Academy Award.

A board of nine filmmakers assigned by the Farabi Foundation, an affiliate to the Ministry of Culture, picked the Iranian submission to the Academy Awards.

Directed and written by Farhadi, A Separation’s male and female leads both received Silver Bears for best actor and best actress at Berlin in February. The film narrates the story of a failing marriage and a high-stakes legal case. Leila Hatami, Peyman Moaadi, Shahab Hosseini, Merila Zarei, Sareh Bayat, and Farhadi’s daughter Sarina Farhadi star.

In France, the film has already gathered 900,000 admissions. Sony Pictures Classics will release in the US on December 30.
