Buenos Aires Lab, the film workshop launched by the Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival with the co-operation of the Fundacion Antorchas of Argentina and the Hubert Bals, Goteburg, Rockefeller and Ford foundations, announced the winners of subsidy awards at the festival (April 16 to 26).

The Hubert Bals fund rewarded Brazil's Philippe Barcinski drama Not By Chance with Euros 10,000 while Goteburg extended the same amount to Mexico's Issa Maria Garcia Ascot for drama Me Vas A Recordar.

The Fundacion Antorcha awarded two Argentinean filmmakers: $3,333 (Pesos 10,000) to Rodrigo Moreno for his drama El Custodio and $2,666 (Pesos 8,000) to Ernesto Baca's drama, Virginal.

Over the past three years, the Fundacion Antorcha has run the workshop in selected Argentine provinces in November where a dozen young Latin American filmmakers are invited to participate. Winners are then announced during the festival.

This year, the festival has also conducted a round of meetings between former participants and international producers who are interested in co financing films in Latin America. The festival has also introduced a Work In Progress section to showcase Argentinean films currently shooting or in post production,
