Veteran Australian film producer Jan Chapman has been named in this year's Australia Day honours list.

She has been created an Officer in the Order of Australia , perhaps equivalent to a pre-1975 Damehood, "for service to the Australian film industry as a producer, and as a contributor to organisations providing strategic direction to the industry". She can now use the letters AO after her name.

Her life has been connected with film since the 60s when she was a member, along with first husband Phillip Noyce, of the pioneering Sydney Filmmakers Co-operative and its feminist offshoot the Sydney Women's Filmgroup. She directed short films in the early 70s before joining ABC Television as a producer.

Her impressive list of feature production credits include The Piano, Love Serenade, Holy Smoke, Walk The Talk, and Lantana.
