Thailand’s Five Star Entertainment has picked up Asian rights to horror film Macabre, marking the first time the Bangkok-based studio has handled a non-Thai film.

Overlook Entertainment picked up US and European rights to the film earlier in the market. Five Star has all Asian rights outside Singapore and Indonesia.

Produced by Singapore-based genre label Gorylah, Macabre is the feature debut of the Mo Brothers, a Jakarta-based filmmaking duo called Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel. Currently in post-production, the film scheduled for release in October.

Gorylah was recently launched as a joint venture between Singapore filmmaker Eric Khoo and Mike Wiluan’s Infinite Frameworks.

Five Star has also sold action title The Red Eagle, to be directed by Wisit Sasanatieng and star Ananda Everingham, and Kongkiat Komesiri’s thriller Slice to France’s Wild Side Films. The film is scheduled to start shooting in August.

Paradiso also took Slice and horror My Ex for Dutch-speaking territories. Five Star also sold Slice, My Ex and horror Soul’s Code to Venus Films for Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia.
