Editor Walter Murch is amongst the speakers taking part in the bespoke programme of sessions focusing on the technical aspects of documentary film-making.

Sheffield Doc/Fest is launching a new programme of sessions - Doc/Craft - which will run at this year’s upcoming festival, aimed at helping documentary film crews to acquire more technical knowledge and expertise.

Participants will include Walter Murch, who will be talking about his career as a film editor, including discussing his new feature documentary Particle Fever.

Documentary film-maker Kim Longinotto will also be speaking on the art of capturing sound, while the BBC Academy’s Samantha Upton will talk about how journalists capture stories on the go.

Other topics up for discussion include the relationship between motion graphics designers and animators.

Doc/Craft is being funded by the Craft and Technical Skills Academy, part of Creative Skillset’s Film Skills Fund, which is funded directly by industry through the Skills Investment Fund (SIF), as well as by the National Lottery via the BFI.

Sheffield Doc/Fest will run June 12-16.
