Hong Kong's hippestdirector has revealed that he's planning to work with Nicole Kidman on aproject with the working title The LadyFrom Shanghai.

A spokesperson forWong Kar Wai's production company, Jet Tone Productions, confirmed that he hopes toshoot the film from early next year. His long-time collaborator, productiondesigner and editor William Chang Suk-ping, is currently meeting with Kidman inthe US to discuss her character and the look of the film.

Jet Tone alsoconfirmed that the film is being set up as an international co-production andis likely to be Wong's next project. Although Wong doesn't usually work withadvance scripts, it's understood that the story is set in 1930s Shanghai - asetting and era that the Shanghai-born director is known to be interested in.

Kidman has oftenexpressed a desire to work with Wong Kar Wai, but many assumed his unorthodoxworking methods would make collaboration unfeasible. Wong writes scripts as heshoots and is renowned for keeping actors in the dark about their characters. He's also notorious for taking his time with actors and spent five yearsshooting 2046.

However, Kidman isknown to take risks and has worked with other demanding auteurs including LarsVon Trier. It's also possible that she could work with Wong around otherprojects as did Asian stars such as Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Zhang Ziyi on 2046.
