Urban Distribution International has sold Pablo Giorgelli’s Camera d’Or winner Las Acacias to Festival Films for distribution in Spain off the back of its successful screening in the Horizontes Latinos section at the San Sebastian film festival.

The film about a truck driver who befriends a woman and her child on a journey from Asuncion Del Paraguay to Argentina has also sold to HBO for Latin America and Selma for Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia and Montenegro. Previous deals include Verve for the UK and Bodega for France.

Las Acacias picked up four awards at Cannes, including the Camera d’Or, and has since travelled to festivals all over the world where it has been well received by the critics. Next up is the Busan festival where Giorgelli wants to “crack the Asian market,” he told ScreenDaily.

Urban has also picked up the international sales rights to Faouzi Bensaidi’s drama Death For Sale about three Moroccans who attempt a heist which goes wrong, Narjiss Nejjar’s The Rif Lover about a young woman who gets caught up with a major drug trafficker, and Helvecio Marins Jr and Clarissa Campolina’s Brazilian drama Girimunho about an elderly woman’s interesting village life, which is also screening in the Horizontes Latinos section at San Sebastian.
