"In the end, the Queen was executed on a trumped up charge that she had sexually abused her son."

Is that the journalist's take, or what happens in the plot -- because it's factually inaccurate. Although Marie Antoinette was accused of sexually abusing her son during her trial for treason, it was such an obvious lie, and she acquitted herself of it so magnificently and eloquently before the tribunal, that the charge was swiftly withdrawn. She was executed for treason, and a number of the charges were trumped up, but the charge of incest with her son was NOT the reason she was executed, nor was it one of the final allegations.
