The UK Film Council has announced an £18m boost for English regional film funds over the next two years.

$15.4m (£7.7m)will be shared between the nineRegional Screen Agencies (RSAs)in each of the next two years.

It is aimed to boost the wide variety of work supporting and developinglocal film industries.

Each RSA will also receive $0.6m (£0.3m) from a Digital Archive Fund, supporting access to film archives.

The new money comes under the title (RIFE) and is a mix of National Lottery and grant-aid funding.

'The agencies bring together all the different parts of the film agenda,' said John Woodward, CEO of the UK Film Council.

'At a local level, from locations support to film production and t hey have been a new and vital catalyst for bringing different and fresh stories to the big screen and showcasing regional talent with films like Control and This is England .'

The English Regional Screen Agencies are: EM Media, Film London, Northern Film and Media, Northwest Vision and Media, Screen East, Screen South, Screen West Midlands, Screen Yorkshire and South West Screen.
