UK animation hopeful Valiant had to settle forfifth place in the UK box office charts over the Easter holiday weekend.

The first CGI feature to be made in the UK put in acreditable performance - considering the warm weather and stiff competition -taking $2m (£1.1m) including $253,788 (£136,020) of previews.

With schools on holiday this week and next, Valiantshould have plenty of time to build on the figures.

Meanwhile,Hitch reclaimed the top spot at the box office with Robotsslipping to second. Miss Congeniality 2 opened well in third with $2.4m(£1.3m) including previews of $378,655 (£202,944). The launch was slightly downon that of its predecessor which took $3.5m (£1.87m) in March 2001. Constantinecame in fifth.

Inlimited release Woody Allen's Melinda And Melinda enjoyed the director'sbest launch in the territory since Small Time Crooks while Maria FullOf Grace got a good start through Icon Film Distribution.
