This year's Nielsen EDI International Gold Reel Awards for crossing the $100m in international markets will honour 29 films.

Special Platinum Reel Awards will also go to the three films that crossed $500m outside the US: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Spider-Man 3.

Together the 29 represent $5.5bn in box-office takings. The awards will be presented on Thursday night at Cinema Expo in Amsterdam.

Tim Ganser, Nielsen EDI's Vice President, International Client Service, said, 'Of the 29 films being honored, 22 of them grossed more internationally than in North America. This is an emphatic affirmation of the importance of the international marketplace, which now accounts for approximately 60% of the global total.'
