US TV network ABC has acquired the television rights to Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone (Sorcerer's Stone in the US) and its sequel, Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets for a reported total of $130m, making it one of the most expensive such deals in TV history.

The deal gives ABC all non-pay TV rights to the two movies, comprising a 10-year license for each film.

Since opening with a record-setting box office take of $90.3m the weekend before Thanksgiving, the first Harry Potter movie has, to date grossed more than $190 million in North America alone.

During the licensing period, ABC will be able to air the films on its broadcast network, as well as on ABC Family and Disney Channel, two cable networks both owned by ABC parent, The Walt Disney Co.
