Focus Features has closed a score of deals on two key titles inthe run-up to the American Film Market, which starts today in Santa Monica.

Synergy,the new comedy from Paul and Chris Weitz, which stars Dennis Quaid, ScarlettJohansson, Topher Grace and Selma Blair, will open domestically in the thirdquarter through Focus' parent company Universal Pictures.

Entertainment has bought the film for the UK, Tobis forGermany, Roadshow for Australia and New Zealand, Sandrew Metronome forScandinavia, Paradiso for Benelux, Gussi for Latin America and HollywoodClassics for Czech Republic among others.

Meanwhile, Seed Of Chucky, the latest in the Child's Play series, recently added legendary moviedirector John Waters to its cast.

Waters, who will host the Independent Spirit Awards in SantaMonica on Saturday, joins Jennifer Tilly, another former Spirits host, and BradDourif in the cast of the film which tracks the attempts by Chucky and hisbride to convince their non-violent offspring to take up the murderous familybusiness. SND has taken the film for France, Constantin Film for Germany,Momentum for the UK, Presidio for Japan, RCV for Benelux, Paradise for CIS,Hollywood Classics for Czech Republic and Gussi for Latin America among others.

"The Weitz brothers have proven their popularitywith audiences around the world which has been reflected in the keen interestfrom buyers in acquiring the projects."
