The Motion Picture Exhibitor Association Of Japan (MPEAJ) has given its Golden Box Office Gross Award to AI Artificial Intelligence, Steven Spielberg's film which was distributed by Warner Bros Pictures. The award recognises the highest grossing foreign film to be released in the territory.
AI has grossed over $78m in Japan. The award was presented to William Ireton, managing director, Japan, of Warner Bros Pictures on Nov 30 as part of Japan's Movie Day festivities at a ceremony hosted by the MPEAJ.
The film grossed as much in Japan as it did in the US where its gross topped out at $78.6m.
