Flemish-languagethriller The Alzheimer Case (De Zaak Alzheimer) has been selected to represent Belgium in the foreign-languageOscar category.

Directed by Erikvan Looy, the film follows an aging contract killer who turns on his politicalmasters when he discovers that he is being manipulated. Alzheimer was a huge local hit in its nativeBelgium, selling over 750,000 tickets, and achieved a rare distinction a filmfor a Flemish picture by getting a wide release in France through ARPSelection.

Earlier thisyear it was the big winner of theBelgian Awards season, taking four of the five Joseph Plateau awards includingbest film.

Internationalsales are now handled by London-based The Works which has secured deals fordistribution in Germany, Japan, Scandinavia, Iceland, Austria, Turkey, Hungary,the Czech and Slovak Republics, France and the Netherlands.
