The International Documentary Festival in Amsterdam (Nov 20-30) has said that, from this year's edition, it will only accept documentaries that premiere at the festival into its main competition.

The news came as festival director Ally Derks yesterday (Oct 28) unveiled an international line-up of 21 instead of the usual 20 docs into the main Joris Ivens competition (see list below).

Austrian director Ulrich Seidl (Animal Love, Models and Dog Days) is this year's special guest. IDFA will also show his latest documentary Jesus, You Know (Austria 2003).

Three sidebar programmes will be based around the themes 'USA Today' (see ScreenDaily.com, October 28), 'Dutch documentary between 1945 and 1965', and 'Focus Jalal Toufic', a modest retrospective on the work of the Lebanese writer and video artist.

The world's biggest documentary festival showing over 200 docs, IDFA opens on November 20 with Capturing the Friedmans by Andrew Jarecki, who won the grand jury prize on this year's Sundance film festival. 350 titles will be for sale at the parallel Docs for Sale market.
