Arista, the training initiative of the EU's Media II programme has joined forces with The Oscar Moore Foundation, the charity launched and run by Screen International in memory of its former editor-in-chief, to add an exclusive seven-day story editor workshop to the annual scriptwriting prize of £10,000.

The annual Oscar Moore Screenwriting Prize was launched in 1997 to nurture new European talent. Every year the short-listed English-language scripts are judged by the UK's most successful producers, including Eric Fellner, Duncan Kenworthy, Scott Meek and former UA Sales agent Wendy Palmer.

Arista has gained a great reputation throughout the international film industry for its workshops, in which Pan-European participants gain both the theoretical knowledge and practical techniques vital to develop their projects.

Foundation chair Anne-Marie Flynn said "The Oscar Moore Screenwriting Prize provides the cash support every new writer needs and a complimentary place on one of the Arista Story Editor Workshops provides a real practical element, making the prize unique in its field. What's more, working with Arista will give us access to committed screenwriters all over Europe".

Over 400 European writers, producers, directors and development executives have taken part in Arista workshops over the last few years. During the workshop, participants get to take a detailed and structured look at their screenplay with experts. They also examine writing techniques mixed in with an examination of how to work in creative groups, the essence of successful screenplay development.

"Arista and the Oscar Moore Foundation are both committed to the well-being of European screenwriting, so it makes sense that we work together to offer the next generation of screenwriters not just cash - which is always useful - but a serious development experience which will help them in their chosen career", said Stephen Cleary, Director, Arista.
