Artisan Entertainment has acquired Startup.com, the new documentary from veteran film-makers Chris Hegedus (The War Room, Moon Over Broadway) and DA Pennebaker (The War Room, Don't Look Back, Monterey Pop) in collaboration with first-timer Jehane Nouhaim. The film follows the development, growth and triumphs of an internet startup - govWorks.com, a private company which collaborates with government to provide a wide variety of internet-based services which enhance interactions with other government agencies and businesses.

Startup.com reteams Pennebaker and Hegedus with Artisan CEO Amir Malin who worked together on The War Room when Malin was co-president of October Films.

The film will be readied in time for inclusion at next year's Sundance Film Festival and will release it theatrically soon afterwards. The deal was brokered by Patrick Gunn, senior vice president, and Karen Levin on behalf of Artisan and by Frazer Pennebaker on behalf of the film-makers.

Artisan last year enjoyed a box office gross of over $7m for its documentary release The Buena Vista Social Club which went on to win an Oscar nomination for best documentary feature.
