Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman will compose the music for Yash Chopra’s long-awaited return to directing, which is set to star Shah Rukh Khan.

The as-yet-untitled project marks the first time that the two industry veterans have worked together. Chopra is one of the Hindi film industry’s most revered studio heads, while A.R. Rahman won the academy awards for best score and song for Slumdog Millionaire.

“I am starting work on the music of my as yet untitled film with the very talented Rahman,” Chopra said. “Apart from the great honour that he has consistently brought to our country, he is also someone that has created some outstanding and memorable music, something which is very important and dear to me and my films.

“I am looking forward to creating some wonderful music combining Rahman’s contemporary world music sensibilities and my old world sensibilities of lilting melodies.”

Chopra said the project will also have two lead roles for actresses to star alongside Shah Rukh Khan. His last film as director was Veer Zaara starring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta in 2004.
