The Asian Festival of 1st Films, a Singapore-based film and documentary festival for first-time filmmakers, has unveiled the nominations for the festival's fourth edition to be held December 4-10.

Among nominated films are Indian actress Nandita Das' Firaq, which traces the emotional journeys of ordinary people one month after the riots in Gujarat in 2002; Chinese director Dai Wei's Gang La Mei Duo, following the travels of a Tibetan singer, and Singaporean director Eric Khoo's My Magic which features first-time actor Bosco Francis.

Launched in Singapore in 2005, AFFF provides first-time directors, producers, actors, cinematographers, editors and documentary filmakers a platform to showcase their work to an international jury of renowned film professionals.

'We recognise the best of international first-time filmmaking and invite film professionals and acquisition heads to Singapore, which provides the perfect location to play host to the Festival,' says festival director Sanjoy Roy.

A jury of internationally renowned filmmakers will view and select the best in each category. The awards will be announced at a ceremony on Dec 10 at Jubilee Hall, Raffles Hotel.

The films will all be screened at Golden Village (Vivo City) and The Arts House, with tickets on sale to the public.
