Political thriller Balibo will start principal photography in Darwin, Australia and East Timor on June 30 (Monday).

The cast features Anthony LaPaglia and Oscar Isaac.

Robert Connolly directs from a script co-written with David Williamson. The story is based on true events during the Indonesian invasion of East Timor in 1975.

LaPaglia plays Australian journalist Roger East and Isaac plays young revolutionary Jose Ramos-Horta. East attempts to find five missing journalists who went missing during the conflict. Those journalists are played by Damon Gameau, Gyton Grantley, Nathan Phillips, Mark Winter and Thomas Wright.

Arenafilm's John Maynard will produce with Rebecca Williamson.

As previously reported, ContentFilm International has worldwide distribution rights to Balibo, excluding Australasia which will be through Footprint Films.

'I'm looking forward to returning home to work again,' LaPaglia said in a statement. 'It's such an inspiring team and an important story for Australia and the region.'
