Antonio Banderas has revealed that his next project will be the supernatural thriller La Hija Del Ruisenor from Mexican director Luis Mandoki.

Banderas will star as the father of a young girl with supernatural powers. Filming is set to begin in January in Mexico where the actor has already made seven films throughout his 26-year career.

'It will be great to work in my own language again,' Banderas told ScreenDaily. 'Mandoki is a good friend of mine and I look forward to working with him.'

Mandoki previously won the Crystal Bear at Berlin in 2005 for his film Voces Inocentes and is currently in production on Beyond The Sun about an American oil specialist hired to protect the interests of a company secretly doing business in the Sudan.

Banderas is currently at the San Sebastian film festival with opening night film The Other Man directed by Richard Eyre.

The star of films such as Desperado, The Legend Of Zorro and Shrek 2 is also at the Basque festival to collect the Donostia award this afternoon in recognition of his work and career.

He will receive the award from Pedro Almodovar, with whom he has already worked on several films, including the Oscar-nominated Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown, and 'would love to do so again in the future,' Banderas told a packed press conference for The Other Man yesterday.
