Taiwan's The Best Of Times, directed by Chang Tso-chi, was awarded best feature at the 39th Golden Horse Awards - Taiwan's equivalent of the Oscars - on Saturday night (Nov 16), while Hong Kong director Fruit Chan picked up the best director prize for Hollywood Hong Kong.

Chan's black comedy, which had the greatest number of nominations with a record 14 nods, also won awards for make-up/costume design and sound effects.

The Best Of Times, which had the second largest number of nominations with nine nods, also picked up the award for best Taiwanese film and the audience award.

As expected, Hong Kong films swept most other categories. Ann Hui's July Rhapsody repeated its Hong Kong Film Awards success by winning prizes for best supporting actress and best new performer - both of which went to Karena Lam - and best original screenplay for Ivy Ho.

Going Home - the Peter Chan-directed segment of horror title Three - won the best actor award for Leon Lai's performance and best cinematography for Christopher Doyle. The Eye, directed by Danny and Oxide Pang, won the best actress award for Lee Sin-Je and best visual effects.

Action title Running Out Of Time 2, directed by Johnnie To, also won two prizes - for action choreography and editing. Best supporting actor went to Anthony Hong for Sylvia Chang's Princess D.
