Friends and colleagues gathered today at the Martin Gropius Bau to pay tribute to the late Bingham Ray, who died suddenly in January during the Sundance Film Festival.

Festival director Dieter Kosslick introduced the proceedings, which included tributes from Mike Leigh, Ben Barenholtz, Michael Barker, John Sloss, Joana Vicente, Bonnie Voland and Geoff Gilmore.

The affectionate recollections included Leigh’s first meeting with Ray at the 1991 Toronto Film Festival where Ray introduced him to everyone as the “the son of Spike Lee”.
