Filipino film The Blossoming Of Maximo Oliveros,directed by Auraeus Solito, was awarded best feature at the inaugural AsianFestival of First Films (AFFF) in Singapore last night (Nov 30).

Producer Raymond Lee was onhand to receive the top award. The film has also been selected to screen at theSundance Film Festival next year, a first for a Filipino feature.

India's Saksham Kulkarni was awarded best actor for Pak Pak Pakaak while best actress went to Anita Majumdar forCanadian production Murder Unveiled.Both actors collected the awards in person.

Also on stage was TiaraJacquelina who was named best producer for historical epic Puteri Gunung Ledang, Malaysia's most expensive film.

Chinese director Xiao Jiangpicked up the best director award for ElectricShadows and Hong Kong's Brenda Tong won the best writer award for Mandheling. Aseem Bajaj picked up bestcinematographer for India's Chameli.

The best documentary went toUK production IFor India while best documentary director went to Yang Yonghi for Dear Pyongyang.

On the jury panel were Thaidirector Nonzee Nimibutr, Indian producer/director Mahesh Bhatt, Korean producerAhn Soo-hyun and UK documentary director Andy Glynne. All nominees were eitherfirst-time directors, actors, screenwriters or cinematographers.

AFFF is organized by Indianproduction company Teamwork Films as a platform for new Asian filmmakers. Topromote the nominated films to overseas buyers, AFFF is also participating inthe three-day Asia Film Market, which kicked off yesterday as one of the anchorevents of the Asia Media Festival hosted by Singapore's Media DevelopmentAuthority (MDA).
